Ministry announces planning of new road section near Lake Balaton
Hungary’s Construction and Transport Ministry launched a public procurement procedure for planning the continuation of the M76 road between Fenékpuszta and Keszthely, near Lake Balaton. According to the announcement published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin, the ministry is inviting bids for various planning tasks, including a preliminary route study, environmental impact assessment, and preparation of permit and detailed design plans for the new road and related infrastructure. The road is expected to stretch approximately 7 kilometres.
Design responsibilities include converting the temporary terminal junction at the beginning of the section on main road 76 into a fully functional grade-separated interchange, and designing the M76 main carriageway over a length of 4.1 km, including grade-separated junctions and bridge structures at the starting chainage. Instead of crossing the marshy area, the road will continue for nearly 3 km towards Keszthely, maintaining a 2×2 lane configuration up to the roundabout junction with main road 75.
Other road developments may also enter the planning stage. These include a 2.5-kilometre stretch of main road 71, a 3-kilometre segment of the 71345 connecting road to Keszthely’s internal border, and a 10-kilometre section between the junctions at Fenékpuszta and Sármellék.
Plans for new cycle routes also underway
The ministry intends to construct a new 5.9-kilometre cycle lane alongside main road 76. This new lane will create a direct link to the Helikon Castle Museum and the Kis-Balaton Visitor Centre. Additionally, plans include an 8.5 to 9-kilometre cycle lane between Keszthely and Vonyarcvashegy.
